Afghanistan has joined the South Asian Free trade Area, which now includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Joining SAFTA will make Afghan products more affordable and more competitive in the region.
The market for Afghan products will grow from 30 million Afghans within the country to 1.5 billion customers in the significantly larger South Asian market. Tariffs will also be reduced under the agreement, making expanded investment more attractive. As a result, Afghanistan will now be able to sell more products to more countries at a lower cost as tariffs will be reduced.
